Frequently asked questions
We use a number of locations close to our base in Nidderdale as beautiful backdrops for our dog photography sessions. We are though happy to travel up to an hour if you have a specific location in mind.
To give you an idea, this covers Harrogate, Ilkley, Knaresborough, Leeds, Northallerton, Otley, Ripon, Skipton, Thirsk, York, Nidderdale, much of Wharfedale and more.
We can travel further afield but there will be an additional cost.
We usually schedule our Dog Photo Sessions for weekends. We are happy arrange weekday shoots if preferred.
As a general rule we prefer to shoot either earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon to take advantage of the better quality of light at those times of day.
Typically our dog photography sessions last 1 – 2 hours.
Usually about 2 weeks although it can be a little longer during busier times of the year.
In the days leading up to your dog’s photo shoot we will be monitoring the weather forecast. If it looks as though it will be too wet, hot, cold or even potentially too dark for the session to take place we will re-schedule.
If your dog is very nervous it is still possible to capture lovely images of them.
Generally we will start off the session very slowly simply giving your dog time to get used to us being around and gauge what we can do based on your dog’s level of comfort.
If it is better for us to work at a distance from your dog we have lenses that can make that possible.
We will discuss this during the pre-shoot consultation to get a better idea of what might work best on the day.
We have worked with dogs with all sorts of levels of training and still managed to get some lovely photos.
Their level of training can limit the amount and the variety of images we can get.
Prior to your dog’s photo session it might be worth spending a bit of time brushing up on some basic commands like sit, stay and down.
The best thing to do is go with the flow. If your dog wants to do its own thing it may limit the variety and number of shots we will be able to capture, but we will still get some lovely images. If you get stressed trying to get them into a particular spot or a pose it will stress them too. We want our photo sessions to be relaxing and enjoyable for all involved. We believe the best images are the ones of your dog doing the things they naturally do.
That’s no problem. There are techniques we can use both during the Photo Session and during the editing process in order to remove leads from the photographs.
Alternatively, if you would feel more comfortable having their Photo Session at an enclosed dog field we can arrange that too. The dog fields we use and the style in which we shoot and edit help to minimise distractions from fences etc. Hiring of an enclosed dog field would incur an additional charge and the Photo Session would be limited to approximately 50 minutes. This will still be plenty of time to get some great images.
If you have a particular image you would like to capture of your dog we will do our best to get it for you.
We will have the opportunity to discuss any ideas you may have during the pre-shoot consultation.
Although we will make every effort to get the image you want, working with dogs isn’t an exact science and we cannot make any guarantees.
The dog’s safety and wellbeing is always our top priority.
Absolutely, we love to capture the special bond that you have with your dog.
We will discuss the types of images that you would like with your dog(s) during the pre-shoot consultation
Many of the rural locations that our dog photography sessions take place can be wet or muddy and the weather can be unpredictable. We suggest wearing sturdy outdoor footwear, hiking boots or wellies. Consider bringing a warm mid-layer or fleece and a waterproof jacket.
If you would like to be in the photos with your dog(s) we recommend wearing darker colours and low-key patterns in order to help keep the focus on them.
Bring their lead, collar and harness if you use one
Some rewards for example treats or their favourite toy or ball
Some water and a bowl.
Possibly a small towel, tissues and a brush if necessary.
Although we don’t delete images from Photo Sessions we cannot make any guarantees as to how long they will be available.
Yes it is possible to personalise a Gift Certificate with either the dog’s and their owner’s name or a short message. Simply add the details to the “Order notes” section at checkout.
Our Gift Certificates are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.
The recipient must contacts us to arrange a date for their Photo Session before the 12 months elapses.
In cases where the recipient contacts us towards the end of the 12 month period we will be happy for the Photo Session to fall outside of that 12 months period.
